Day 1- Sunday

Arrive Juneau, and head down to Hopsctoch to drop your bags and meet the crew! We ask that you try not to come down before 2pm, as we will still be preparing and provisioning Hopscotch for our trip with you. Hopscotch will be docked in downtown Juneau (we will send you the exact location). This is your day to explore Juneau! There is so much to do, and Captain Brendan can point you in the right direction! Hiking, Biking, visiting museums and shops, taking the tram to the top of Mt. Roberts, the list goes on! Tonight you are “on your own” for dinner. Juneau boasts some of the finest restaurants in Alaska, but also has everything from Pizza to Thai!

DAY 2- Monday

We'll do breakfast "on the dock"! This is your last chance to pick up any last minute things you might want before we depart and our real adventure begins! We'll depart the dock at 10am and head South into Stephen's Passage for hopefully some good Humpback viewing,  and sailing. We will most likely make it to "No Name Harbor" at the head of Tracy/Endicott Arm.  It's a long day on the water, but gorgeous!  No Name is a really cool anchorage with icebergs usually floating right outside the entrance, and bears (and sometimes wolves) on the sedge (beach grass) at dusk.  We'll arrive hopefully right at Dinner time.

DAY 3- Tuesday

Glacier Day!  We will get up early (well you guys can sleep in!) and get going.  We have about  a 40 mile day to get all the way up to the Dawes Glacier as we pick our way through icebergs, while being surrounded by some of the most stunning glaciated peaks in North America.  If we are lucky we will see some foraging Orcas after the seals! Hopefully we will get to the foot of the glacier by noon, and do lunch and watch some calving and be in awe of what is truly a spectacular spot.   After some time at the glacier we will turn around and head halfway back down the Glacier Arm to an inlet called "Ford's Terror".  Fords Terror is one of our favorite places in Alaska. To enter into "Fords Terror" we have to wait for a high Slack Tide.  So we may spend Tuesday night right outside of Ford's Terror in a spectacular Anchorage, where we can be just a couple hundred feet from the Tidal River which flows up to 12 kts at max flood and ebb.,..it's really neat to see. If we catch the tide right, we will head into Fords Terror that evening.

DAY 4 - Wednesday

Depending on our "Tide Gate" (when the tide is slack so that we can enter Fords Terror) we will enter into Fords Terror. Once we go through the Tide Gate we only have a 30 minute put to the anchorage, where we can spend the whole day exploring by dinghy or kayay/SUP/foot.  Fords Terror is one of the most remote (because of the tide gates) and incredible places we’ve ever been.  No cruise ship can make it in there, and most pleasure boats avoid it because once you are "in" you are stuck for 24 hours (due to the tides). You will love it.

DAY 5 - Thursday

We will leave Fords Terror 24 hours after we entered (depending on the tide, again High Slack tide is when we can transit the narrows) and head back towards Stephens Passage to another magical place called Taku Inlet where we will spend the night.  Taku is a very protected bay which is now a state park and has an old remains of a cannery which are fun to explore.

DAY 6 - Friday

We'll depart Taku Harbor and sail back to Juneau and arrive in the afternoon. You’ll have one more night to relax “ on the dock”and explore all that Juneau has to offer!

DAY 7 - Saturday

We’ll have one final Breakfast on board before departing. We ask that you please “check out” by 10 AM, as the crew has a lot to prep for before our next guests arrive. Perhaps this is just the start of your Alaskan Adventure, and you’re off to the interior next! We can help give you some great ideas for extending your stay and seeing even more of this incredible place!

A few notes about Alaska

Southeast Alaska is one of the last best places. It is wild, and empty and rugged. You’ll be traveling aboard Hopscotch into some of the most beautiful and remote places in North America. Our trips in Alaska are a little different than our San Juan Island Trips. Generally we will be traveling (Sailing or motoring) for between 6 and 10 hours each day through some of the most beautiful wilderness anywhere. But keep in mind that these can be “long days” on the water. With the long daylight hours there is still plenty of time for exploring anchorages by kayak, sup, and foot. It’s important to note that when on shore, you’ll be accompanied by Brendan. The wilderness is very real in Alaska, and hikes/walks/beach strolls all require someone with bear spray, and noise making devices.

Once you step on board you'll have everything you need, and then some! Our charters are "All inclusive"...food, beverages (non alcoholic) gear, even some really good jokes from the Captain! Prices listed below do not include: items you purchase in port, crew gratuities, and any hard alcohol/wine/beer you wish to bring on-board with you.

In the charter industry, a 15-20% Crew Gratuity is customary for excellent service. If service is less than excellent we ask that you speak with us (it hasn’t happened yet!).

WHAT'S INCLUDED

Everything! You bring your adventurous attitude, we’ll do the rest! All food, drinks (non alcoholic) and gear (kayaks, etc) are included.

What you DO need to bring:

  • Any Alcohol you wish to consume *available in Juneau

  • Cold weather clothes (including waterproof jackets, gloves, and boots. Glaciers can be chilly!
